Peak Oil (World Oil Production Peaked in 2008) is the point at which World oil production stops growing and begins to decline terminally. The implications of Peak Oil are terrifying; the World is extremely dependent on oil for transportation, chemicals and plastics, agriculture, and basically for all aspects of modern day life. People often think that the solution to Peak Oil is simple, assuming that substituting renewable energy sources instead of nonrenewable energy sources will solve the problem. However, what they don’t understand is that many renewable energy sources have major drawbacks to implementation on a large scale and require vast fossil fuel inputs (Renewable Fuel Pretenders). When one understands the latter, one should feel the need to take action, because the inevitable conclusion that one reaches is that industrial civilization is to collapse, if not, experience a very severe transition to a post-oil World.
